Sea buckthorn (Hippophae rhamnoides) is a hardy, prickly plant with bright orange-red fruits. It originally comes from Nepal. The fruit with the delicious berries has long been native to Germany and is cultivated here.

The oil is used both for culinary purposes and in cosmetics. In comparison, sea buckthorn seed oil has a milder and less fruity taste. The color of the oil is also less intense. The main difference lies in the area of use: while sea buckthorn pulp oil is approved as a foodstuff, sea buckthorn seed oil is not a foodstuff and may not be used internally.
