Organic sea buckthorn berries

Sea buckthorn (Hippophae rhamnoides) is a hardy, prickly plant with bright orange-red fruits. It originally comes from Nepal. The fruit with the delicious berries has long been native to Germany and is cultivated here.

Anti-ageing power of the sea buckthorn berry

The sea buckthorn oil from Ölmühle Solling is a sea buckthorn pulp oil: this means that it is not only cold-pressed from the seeds, but also from the pulp of fresh sea buckthorn berries. This preserves the valuable ingredients in their best form. These include the natural carotenoids that give the fruit its bright orange color. Sea buckthorn pulp oil contains 39 g per 100 g of palmitoleic acid. This monounsaturated fatty acid is an important component of human skin lipids. This is why sea buckthorn oil is very popular as an anti-ageing skin care oil and for sun-stressed skin, for example.

Sea buckthorn oil has a very intense taste and is bright orange in color. This is why it is often mixed with other oils in recipes and cosmetics. It tastes excellent in fruit salads, yoghurt and muesli. It gives desserts a strong fruity note.

Sea buckthorn pulp oil and sea buckthorn seed oil

The difference between sea buckthorn pulp oil and sea buckthorn seed oil lies, as the name of the two oils suggests, in the fact that the former is the extracted pulp of the sea buckthorn berry. Sea buckthorn seed oil, on the other hand, is cold-pressed from the dried seeds of the sea buckthorn berry.

The taste, appearance and range of uses of the two oils are also different: sea buckthorn pulp oil has a strong, very fruity taste and stands out with its bright orange-red color. The oil is used both for culinary purposes and in cosmetics. In comparison, sea buckthorn seed oil has a milder and less fruity taste. The color of the oil is also less intense. The main difference lies in the area of use: while sea buckthorn pulp oil is approved as a foodstuff, sea buckthorn seed oil is not a foodstuff and may not be used internally.
