Origin and history

Hemp, with its distinctive leaves, is one of the oldest cultivated plants in the world. It originated in Central Asia and was cultivated in Europe soon after its discovery. The active ingredient tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) has made hemp famous as a narcotic but also as a medicinal plant. Today, numerous varieties with a low THC content are cultivated, from which valuable foodstuffs are produced. In Europe in particular, there are numerous varieties that are virtually free of THC.

Usage

Unhulled hemp seeds are an ideal ingredient for yogurt, smoothies, muesli and porridge. With their nutty flavor, they are also suitable as an ingredient in salads and hot and cold vegetable dishes. They are also suitable as a baking ingredient for bread or rolls. Hemp seeds can be used whole or ground.
