ORGANIC Milk thistle press cake

Milk thistle is a classic and traditional bitter herb and was already cultivated as a "liver plant" in medieval monastery gardens. It is rich in beneficial substances such as silymarin, the active ingredient of milk thistle, a natural complex of three flavono-lignans.

Milk thistle press cake as healthy feed for horses

The press cake produced during the cold pressing of milk thistle seeds (Silybum marianum L.) is a high-quality and beneficial feedstuff for horses. Due to its detoxifying effect, it is particularly well known for feeding to horses with liver disease and for detoxification in general. Our organic milk thistle cake is obtained from the fully ripe seeds of the milk thistle by partial de-oiling using cold pressing. Pressing at temperatures below 40 °C preserves the valuable ingredients in their best form. The press cake is free from additives and contains valuable unsaturated fatty acids.

The raw protein content of milk thistle cake is around 19 g per 100 g. The press cake also contains around 8 g per 100 g of valuable milk thistle oil, making it an ideal supplementary feed for horses that are heavy feeders. Due to its omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acid content, feeding milk thistle cake supports fat metabolism.
In the event of feed-related deficiency symptoms, the bitter substances in milk thistle cake can have a positive effect on liver function and regeneration. In addition, regular feeding can support the normal change of coat and the shine of the horse's coat. It also promotes the flow of bile and accelerates regeneration after bacterial or viral diseases. Milk thistle can also support the growth of hooves.

Also suitable for dogs

Our milk thistle pellets can also be used as a food supplement for dogs, although acceptance may vary from dog to dog, as milk thistle pellets have a slightly bitter taste by nature. Ideally, the pellets should be mixed with dry or wet food.

Be careful with black cumin seed cake: Black cumin seed oil and black cumin seed cake are poisonous for cats, as they cannot completely break down bitter substances, unlike horses and dogs.

In our oil mill, raw materials from controlled organic cultivation are processed into high-quality natural products. We do not add any additives.

Feeding recommendation

We recommend a daily feeding of 50-100 g per pony or horse. The pellets can be fed on their own or mixed into the feed and are also suitable as a horse treat. For dogs we recommend 3-5 g per 10 kg body weight. Please soak the pellets before feeding and mix into the feed. Start with a smaller amount to check whether your dog can tolerate the pellets. Please discuss the dosage with your vet if necessary.
