Organic black cumin seeds
Ölmühle Solling offers you fully ripened Egyptian black cumin seeds from organic farming. Black cumin seeds (Nigella sativa) are characterized by their intense, spicy-peppery taste.
Valuable ingredients
Black cumin seeds are rich in the essential, doubly unsaturated linoleic acid. Linoleic acid helps to maintain normal blood cholesterol levels. A special feature of black cumin is the high proportion of essential oils, as well as bitter and tannins such as nigellin and thymoquinone. They give black cumin its distinctly intense, typical flavor, but also explain the popularity of black cumin oil for a variety of applications in folk medicine.
Black cumin as a plant
Black cumin (Nigella sativa) belongs to the buttercup family; the plant is not related to caraway. The seeds of the plant are small, angular and, as the name suggests, black.
Origin and history
Black cumin was once known in this country as "bread root" and grew in many farm gardens before it was forgotten. According to one anecdote, Martin Luther omitted the crucial word "black" before "caraway" when translating the Bible from Hebrew at the crucial point when it came to the spice, thus contributing to misunderstandings. Be that as it may, it is certain that black cumin was already widespread in Egypt and surrounding countries at the time of the pharaohs and was used for a wide variety of purposes (even today, the preferred qualities thrive in Egypt).
Climate-neutral packaging
We pack our organic black cumin seeds in CO2-neutral, sustainable bags. These are made from over 80% renewable raw materials. What makes us particularly happy is that the bags are aluminum-free. A large proportion of the polymers that are otherwise frequently used are replaced by renewable raw materials, such as paper from sustainable forestry (FSC certified). The bags are manufactured under controlled social conditions in Europe. The light-protected, environmentally friendly packaging can be resealed after the first opening and protects the aroma and quality of our black cumin seeds.
